Designed by Joel Maisonet, Elena Victoria Feliz & Axel Estrada from an original idea by Marvin Quijada

This is the story of a man who falls in love with the woman of his dreams while in his dreams. The Dream King is an epic and delightful journey of a psyche in revolt told through movement, clowning, physical comedy, silent film style projections***, a dynamic musical score, and a healthy dose of wild imagination.

***Title cards will be displayed in English, Spanish, and Polish.

Reviews

★★★★ (out of four)

…a thoughtful meditation on loneliness, the importance of connecting with other humans, and the fundamental resilience of the human spirit.

…a beguiling performance at the heart of a most charming dream.

★★★1/2 (out of four)

…a fast-paced, highly polished show full of eye-popping visuals…

…Quijada is utterly endearing and hilarious.

This amazing production, by turns charming and playful, bittersweet and deeply moving, could not be better. Or more satisfying.

…charming and playful, bittersweet and deeply moving…
— Chicago Sun-Times
A fantastical show like this, with few words and such a simple, symbolic story, can only work with the best performers and design, and Teatro Vista brings it.

…strange and lovely…

Quijada, a marvelous actor with a comic, mobile face and an infinite store of gestures, has both the emotional range of silent movie master Buster Keaton and the lightness of Harold Lloyd.

There’s joy here, and originality, and love of storytelling. It feels like the Chicago theater scene is waking up again, after a long and troubled sleep.
— Newcity
With a seemingly elastic facial range, [Marvin Quijada’s] expressions can bring one to tears of mirth or mercy. Brushing his teeth? Hilarious. Looking for his missing loved one? Your heart will crack.
— Chicago Reader
If the idea of a “silent musical” intrigues you, I promise that you will not be disappointed by taking the journey to the Chopin Theatre to see The Dream King. Your 80 minutes will fly by.
