LA HAVANA MADRID

TEATRO VISTA ORIGINAL COMMISSION
A joyce award winning project

By Sandra Delgado
Directed by Cheryl Lynn Bruce
Live music by Carpacho y Su Súper Combo

COMING SPRING 2019

La Havana Madrid is an immersive, documentary-style theater experience conceived and written by Sandra Delgado, based on the true story of the 1960s nightclub, La Havana Madrid, which once existed at Belmont and Sheffield in Chicago. Audiences will be invited into an intimate recreation of the lively 1960s music club, with cabaret seating, a bar, a dance floor and a live band.

Fellow Teatro Vista ensemble member Cheryl Lynn Bruce directs Delgado’s theatrical, cinematic history of Latino Caribbeans in Chicago. Legendary Colombian-American musician Roberto "Carpacho" Marin, and his band of 30 years, Carpacho y Su Super Combo, will play live every show, with Delgado as lead singer. Together, the play’s band and cast will chronicle the history of Caribbean Latino music through the decade, from mambo to the birth of salsa, all in a live, nightclub setting.
