It is the mission of Teatro Vista’s Educational Outreach Program to introduce the power of theatre to students in public, parochial and private schools. We strive to ensure that children from all backgrounds have access to the arts. Each year we provide hundreds of discounted and complimentary tickets to underprivileged and underserved students. Our shows feature a predominately diverse cast.

by William Shakespeare

Through the hate of warring factions, in defiance of their families and in secrecy from their closest friends, an ill-fated young couple risks all they have to be together. We perform Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy of star-crossed lovers with resounding life, passion, laughter, tears, sword fighting and, perhaps, the most romantic poetry in all of literature!

What Critics Are Saying:

“The characters and their acting were phenomenal.” - Sarah M., student

“…this was his firs play…he only took this class as a fill-in. He had no interest in theatre, but you helped open his eyes. Thanks for all that you did.”  Teacher, South Elgin High School

sound + fury
by Marvin Quijada & Gabe Ruiz

Teatro Vista Ensemble Members Marvin Quijada and Gabriel Ruiz tell original stories and present experiments using technology most of us carry in our pockets and backpacks everyday. With a cellphone and an iPad, these iOS musicians bridge the distance between immersive technological environments and the most classic analog format: Theater.

Sound + Fury is built to be theater for a YouTube generation, packing hilarious, heartfelt, and action-packed stories into sketches that deconstruct assumptions of what theater can do, while highlighting universal themes weaved through electronically driven Latin, house, and hip-hop music. Much of the electronic music is performed live with Marvin Quijada’s being one of Chicago’s sole iOS Finger Drumming performers.

A sold-out audience at Steppenwolf Theater leapt to their feet after a show that was part hip-hop concert, house music concert, neo-noir radio play, physical/clown story telling, poetry reading, even opera. The night of relentlessly disparate genres coalesce into a revelation that Theatre is able to contain them all.
